BFA, Art Center College of Design, Pasadena
MFA, Art Center College of Design, Pasadena

As owner of Don Cole Photography since 1989, he has photographed for commercial clients, and has exhibited his artwork in galleries and museums.

His mixed media images reflect the process of remembering.  They are fragmented images that represent the distorted and selective process of trying to recall something.  It’s an exploration of how much of a continuous image is necessary to arrive at the image’s essence.  The works have gesture and immediacy to them.  They are raw, repulsive, and chaotic.

His images have appeared on more than 50 book covers.  He has served as principle photographer for more than 40 publications.  His photographs have appeared in:  L.A. Times, N.Y. Times, National Geographic, African Arts Magazine, Outdoor Photographer, American Indian Art Magazine, Arts & Architecture, Smithsonian.

Don Cole is Director of Photography at the Fowler Museum at UCLA. In addition, he has taught digital imaging at Los Angeles Mission College since 1997.  As an instructor at Ai-Hollywood, he has taught Digital Color Theory, Advanced Color Management, Advanced Image Manipulation, and Digital Photography.
